West Park, with its gently sloped lands banking high above the Hudson River, is the perfect place to sip wine at any one of the boutique farm wineries dotting the hills. Or if spirits are more to your liking, you can imbibe fine craft whiskey, rye and vodka on the deck of a restored 100-year-old monastery with a view of Vanderbilt Mansion.

For those who like their spirits to be more of the scary variety, the No. 1 outdoor haunted attraction, Headless Horseman Hayrides, is a must-see. Once Halloween is over, the masterminds of fright turn the place into a magical world of holiday lights and winter festivities with A Frosty Fest.

Plenty of hiking, biking and communing with nature can be found at John Burroughs Nature Sanctuary, Black Creek Preserve, Esopus Meadows Preserve and Shaupeneak Ridge. In Rifton, enjoy a picnic alongside the second-oldest covered wooden bridge in New York, Perrine’s Bridge, built in 1853. Or take a boat ride to the Meadows Lighthouse, the last remaining wooden lighthouse on the Hudson.
